El Capitan Lodge
20 guests
El Capitan Lodge, nestled within remoteSea Otter Sound
on the western shores of Alaska's Prince of Wales Island and well known for
its excellent salmon & halibut fishing, is just two
hours by air from Seattle. Fully equipped, custom-built
26' boats provide you with a safe, productive guided
fishing trip. The management of El Capitan Lodge has
over 30 years experience in the Alaskan lodge business
and is truly able to provide its guests with "The
Ultimate Alaskan Sport Fishing Adventure!"
“Providing a memorable Alaskan fishing trip that exceeds
your greatest expectations is our goal at El Capitan
Lodge. We also believe that the quality of our service
rather than the quantity of our customers is the key to
achieving this goal. By limiting our capacity to twenty
guests per trip, our staff of twenty can provide the
quality fishing experience and the personable service
our guests deserve.” Scott Van Valin, Owner.
El Capitan Lodge offers an optional fly-out program that
has become quite popular with guests. The cost is
reasonable as there is no charge for pick-up, since the
floatplane is based at the lodge and ready to fly. Most
trips are half a day or less, allowing guests to still
enjoy a half-day of saltwater fishing.
Surrounded by the beautiful Tongass National Forest, El Capitan Lodge was fortunate enough to purchase one of the few private parcels available in this large area, and the result has become an area of world class sport fishing for salmon and halibut, which still to this day remains virtually untouched by other anglers or lodges.
Activities
Saltwater Fishing
For saltwater fishing, nothing could be finer. We'll head out into Sea Otter Sound to troll for hefty Alaskan King Salmon or drift fish for Halibut and Rockfish, all of which are year-round residents of the surrounding waters. Seasonally, we'll go after feisty Silver Salmon and hungry Pink Salmon. Your catch will be processed daily in our indoor cleaning facility, vacuum packed, frozen, and placed in wet-loc boxes for shipment home as baggage
Spin or Fly Fishing for Chrome Bright Silver Salmon
Just a short 10-minute flight from the lodge or a 45-minute scenic drive is some of the best Silver Salmon fishing in Alaska. Located in a bay about twice the size of our bay here at El Capitan, there is a yearly return of 100,000 Silver Salmon. These silvers are part of the SSARA fish enhancement program. Once in the brackish water bay the Silvers won't bite on herring cut-plugs like we use out in the ocean here, but will bite great using a lightweight spinning rod with 12lb. test line, or guests may also choose to try out a 7 wt. fly rod using streamer flys. They bite great on either set up!
