Activities
Halibut Fishing:
Homer is the Halibut Capitol of the world.
We aggressively fish for halibut aboard our
newly re-powered 36 foot Delta which is
coast guard inspected. The Sea Hawk provides
a full walk around fishing platform and is
skippered by John Phillips, a 25 year
Alaskan fishing these waters. Your daily
take home limit for halibut is 2 fish, and
you can release as many as you would like.
Our current release record is 36. Typically
we will anchor up while fishing around the
tides. The idea is to get a scent path using
herring to attract in the fish. Halibut can
exceed 300 pounds, however the average size
is more like 35. This is a full day trip
usually leaving the Homer Harbor around 6:30
in the morning and returning to the dock
around 5 in the afternoon. We clean and
fillet all fish and then off to the
processor for vacuum packing and freezing
and ready for you to take back home. Plan
on returning home with a lot of fish. We
do also offer a 3 day overnight trip to the
Kodiak islands with overnight at Port
Williams Cannery. This is a true trophy fish
hunt and is available to groups of 6 or
more.
Salmon Fishing:
We
typically fish for saltwater King Salmon
during the first half of the season and for
Silver Salmon after the third week of July.
The King Salmon are the mightiest of the
Salmon and will run upwards of 60 pounds
with the average in the 30's.
We use down
riggers and troll using Herring as bait with
a flasher set up. The Salmon are usually
found around or near the river mouths. The
Limit for King Salmon varies from 1 to 2
fish depending on the area that we catch
them. Silver Salmon fishing in the fall has
a limit of 3 fish per angler. It is not
uncommon for us to have 3 to 4 anglers
hooked up at the same time. Depending upon
weather, we will commonly fish both Silvers
and Halibut in the same day. Ling Cod season
opens on July 1 and the limit for these
mighty sea monsters is 2 per day. Our 2004
record was a trophy 62 pounder caught by
David Butterfield.
Kenai
River Fishing:
The Kenai
is the famous river of the giant Salmon. The
worlds largest kings are taken from this
great river. We will fish the Kenai in the
month of June for the early run of kings and
during July for the stronger 2nd run. The
fishing on the Kenai is a little slower
action, but when you hook up with one of
those giants you will be in for the ride of
your life. The daily limit is one per angler
with two fish for the season. During the
later part of the season, the Kenai will
produce excellent rainbow trout fishing. You
can perfect your fly fishing skills while
drift fishing the upper sections of the
river. Silvers will enter the river toward
the middle of August. Daily limits are two
fish.
Fly-out
guided fishing:
We will
have a variety of fly out options for the
2005 season. The west side of Cook Inlet
produces excellent dolly and Silver Salmon
fishing during the month of August. We
typically fish tidally dependent coastal
streams, bring your fly gear, we will
provide anglers with spinning gear. The
early part of the season fly outs for King
Salmon will be to the Nushagak River in the
Bristol Bay drainage area as well as the
Chuitna River. This is an excellent
opportunity for world class Salmon fishing.
Brown Bear Viewing:
We have a variety of brown bear photography
programs. These tours include the coastal
areas of the Katmai and Lake Clark National
Park regions as well as the infamous Brooks
Falls. Expect spectacular wilderness scenery
while bear viewing. Transportation is via
floatplane and or Cessna 206 with beach
landing in the coastal areas. Trip
destinations will vary depending on the bear
migrations. We do have several options that
include a day of fishing while enjoying the
company of the brown bears as they also
fish. Overnight trips at wilderness camps
and lodges are available to those wishing to
extend this adventure. These trips are to
sensitive areas and are limited to small
groups of 4 to 8 people.
Floatplane to Glacier:
Flyout to Grewingk Glacier with Kayak
adventure over to Glacier Ice. Short hike
down to Kachemak Bay for a return Water Taxi
ride via Gull Island Bird Sanctuary back to
Homer.
Guided River Fishing:
Guided Fly-fishing on local rivers and
lakes. This adventure includes a full day of
instruction at locations local to Homer.
Fish caught will include Dolly Varden,
Steelhead and Salmon (depending on dates).
This will be mostly catch and release on the
Anchor River and at Deep Creek. We do offer
an option to fly out to Kachemak Bay State
Park Lakes for a day of shoreside fishing. |
