The Lodge at Whale Pass

Finally, serious fishing meets serious adventure! The Lodge at Whale Pass is Alaska’s first premier wilderness lodge that provides the same exceptional service and planning for adventure activities, eco-tours, and sportfishing – making us the perfect destination choice for corporate retreats and incentive trips. Our location on the northeast shore of Prince of Wales Island will immerse you in one of the most spectacular settings on the planet, all within a few hours of Seattle.

Each day is unique at The Lodge at Whale Pass and our goal is to provide you and your group with the utmost in flexibility. There is no set itinerary as the day is yours to create; whether it’s fishing for salmon, halibut or other bottom fish in the saltwater, trout or salmon in the pristine streams of the Tongass National Forest, or sea-kayaking amidst the ice of Le Conte Glacier. Your adventure palette will consist of whale watching, hiking, mountain biking, sea-kayaking, wildlife viewing, caving, fishing, glacier-viewing, just to name a few!

Our goal is to make you feel at home at The Lodge at Whale Pass. You’ll be treated to the finest accommodations, dining, and service that Alaska has to offer. The lodge is blessed with ample interior spaces for our guests to enjoy. The Great Room in the main lodge is more introspective place designed for reading, conversing and unwinding by the fireplace. In contrast, the livelier ‘rec’ room, a separate building from the main lodge, is the perfect setting for entertainment with its gaming tables, bar and player piano.

Added amenities include our Finnish-style sauna flanked by our hot tub, both with spectacular bay views. For some extra pampering our licensed masseuse will help to end the perfect adventure filled day. We also welcome and encourage children. As part of our highly acclaimed youth program, children of all ages, from infants to teens, will find a world of exciting discovery, learning and fun awaiting them at The Lodge at Whale Pass.

La Conte Glacier Tours

We have the luxury of being able to cruise up the Inside Passage to Alaska's southmost glacier. The wonderful day trip holds plenty of excitement. See whales, seals and other wildlife as you motor up through the islands. Stop and fish for halibut or salmon.

The glacier is borne from mountains over ten thousand feet, carving a beautiful fjord as it heads toward saltwater. The ice pack at the base of the glacier acts as an early season rookery for Harbour Seals and thier pups. We can take some kayaks along for a more advanced paddle through the icebergs. Bring plenty of film on the trip adventure (thank God for digital cameras).

Petersburg, Alaska

Visit the quaint town of Petersburg, Alaska. This little fishing village is surrounded by gorgeous mountains and has not yet been over run by the cruise ship culture. There's an Information Center, located at the harbormasters office at the town dock, and a Visitor's Center and the Clausen Memorial Museum located just a few blocks away. There are some clothing stores and gift shops, Sons of Norway Hall has a good crafts store, there's an art gallery, a cafe to grab a great cup of coffee, and historic Sing Yee Alley is nearby.

Take a walk north of town to where you can get a good look at Wrangell Narrows and the rapid tides that pour through it. At times the tidal current swirls past the faces of the the cannery docks at some 5 knots or better - making for very challenging 'landings' for the heavily laden fishing vessels that dock here.

Kids Outdoors Wilderness Camp

Sign you children up for the  “Outdoor Wilderness Program” that will have them exploring beaches, learning about wildlife, fishing near the lodge, hiking and indoor activities all in a well throughout and professionally supervised environment. This program provides adults a chance to go off during the day and take the break a vacation should be. Everyone wins in a program like this.
