Flight-seeing, Photography, Hiking,
Kayaking, Wildlife Viewing, Bird Watching
Unique Environments
Glaciers, Icebergs & Glacial Lakes,
National Parks, Plants, Wildflowers and Berries,
Volcanoes, Crater Lakes and Calderas, Native Villages
and Peoples of Alaska are all part of our one of a kind,
handcrafted itineraries.
Wildlife Viewing
All of our treks operate in areas
inhabited by many varieties of mammals, birds, and sea
life. Flying overhead, fishing alongside a stream, or
quietly paddling a kayak will allow you to observe and
photograph animals in their natural habitats. Wild
animals are unpredictable, and the landscape vast, so
sightings vary from trip to trip.
We also have treks for bird watching,
plants, and wildflowers and berries.
Alaska’s National Parks
The 15 National Parks in Alaska are home
to the United States’ tallest mountains and biggest
glaciers and some of its most exotic wildlife.
Glaciers, Icebergs and Glacial Lakes
Glaciers in Alaska number more than
100,000, and depending upon our route, we can see lots
of them!
Native Villages and Peoples of Alaska
There are seven distinct Native
cultures, and many sub-cultures, in Alaska. The primary
Native cultures are the Inupiat and Yupik Eskimos of the
Far North, the Aleuts of the Southwest, the Athabascan
Indians of the Interior, and the Haida, Tlingit, and
Tsimshian Indians of the Inside Passage. Many Native
people are bilingual in English as well as their own
dialect. Different languages, cultural traditions, art
forms, and a more leisurely sense of time are
encountered in the villages we visit. You are sure to
meet some wonderful and interesting people!
Best Months to Travel?
When is the best time to travel to
Alaska? There is no “best time” as all of Alaska’s
seasons have something special to offer! The summer
season is mid-May through mid-September, with only
slight differences in particular months. During our June
and July trips you will experience longer daylight hours
due to the summer solstice. In August and September
there may be opportunities for seeing the Northern
Lights on clear evenings, especially in the Arctic. In
Southeast Alaska, May and June tend to be sunnier and
dryer than August, although this varies from summer to
summer. Winter provides the best opportunity to see the
Northern Lights, enjoy a ride in a dog sled, or snowshoe
in the wilderness. No matter what time of year you
travel; you will enjoy your adventure!
Guides - Fishing and Flight
Our Orvis-endorsed guides fish
gravel-bottomed, clear-flowing inland rivers and streams
for five species of Pacific Salmon, as well as native
species of trout, Dolly Varden, Arctic Char, Grayling
and Northern Pike
Small parties (2-6 people) are flown and
guided by experienced pilot guides from point-to-point.
Local Pilots and Guides - Having
been to each destination and often designing the trips
after our own experiences, we are able to provide first
hand information about the Alaskan environment.
Equipment
Fishing Equipment: Provided for the
beginner as well as for the experienced angler who
prefers to leave their gear at home. Hip boots, rods,
reels, and terminal tackle will be selected based on the
specific areas and species that will be fished.
Safety Features
Federal Aviation Regulations require
certification when providing air transportation of
persons or property for compensation or hire. As a FAA
Certified Part 135 Air Carrier, Sky Trekking Alaska’s
pilots and aircraft meet or exceed FAA maintenance and
training standards.
Aircraft utilized in Part 135 operations
must undergo a conformity inspection by the FAA and
adhere to strict maintenance schedules and repair
procedures performed by FAA certified personnel.
Our planes are equipped with two-way
intercom systems that allow the pilot to easily converse
with guests and narrate each flight.
Weather
Most of our treks operate in the
Southcentral and Southwestern areas of Alaska where we
enjoy a maritime climate. Summer temperatures usually
range from the 50s to the low 70s. On our Arctic treks,
you can expect summer temperatures to be in the high 60s
to 70s at times with cooler days in the 50s.
